Known for his powerful voice, inspiring homilies, and compassionate ministry, Msgr. Remegio “Monsi Regie” Rodriguez Hizon Jr. made history in 1997 as the youngest priest in Bataan to be elevated to the rank of Monsignor. After more than three decades of faithful priestly service, he continues to shepherd God’s people as Parish Priest of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Calungusan, Orion, Bataan.
An Early Call to the Priesthood
When Msgr. Remegio “Monsi Regie” Rodriguez Hizon Jr. celebrates Mass, the absence of electricity or a working microphone is hardly a problem. His strong and commanding voice can fill an entire church. More than its volume, however, it is the substance of his preaching that leaves a lasting impression. His homilies awaken the mind, touch the heart, and offer lessons that the faithful can carry into their daily lives.
For Monsi Regie, the desire to become a priest began at a young age. He entered the seminary during his high school years, beginning a journey of discerning God’s call to the priesthood.
He received his early seminary formation at Don Bosco before continuing at San Carlos Seminary, where he completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology. These formative years deepened his faith, strengthened his vocation, and prepared him for a lifetime of service to the Church.
The son of Engineer Remegio Gomez Hizon Sr. and Fe Rodriguez, he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders on November 23, 1991. From that day onward, Fr. Remegio Rodriguez Hizon Jr. began a priestly journey that would bring him to several communities throughout Bataan.
Parish Ministry and Pastoral Leadership
Over the years, Fr. Regie served in various parish communities, proclaiming the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments, and accompanying the faithful through moments of joy, uncertainty, suffering, and hope.
Wherever he was assigned, his distinctive voice, energetic preaching, and strong pastoral presence became familiar to the people he served. His homilies invited parishioners not only to listen to the Word of God but also to reflect upon it and apply its teachings to their daily lives.
Through every assignment, he carried out the essential mission of a diocesan priest: to remain close to the people, celebrate the sacraments, proclaim the Gospel, and respond to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the community.
Compassionate Ministry at Bahay Puso and Munting Tahanan
Among the most meaningful chapters of his priesthood was his service as Director of Bahay Puso and Munting Tahanan. Through these institutions, his ministry extended beyond the traditional responsibilities of parish life.
At Bahay Puso, he lived and worked closely with elderly people, including those who had been forgotten or left without anyone able to care for them. At Munting Tahanan, he accompanied children who had experienced abandonment, displacement, and difficult circumstances beyond their control.
Through this ministry, Monsi Regie became more than a priest and administrator. He became a companion, protector, and father figure to people who needed care, dignity, security, and a renewed sense of belonging.
His presence reminded them that every person possesses God-given dignity and that no one is ever forgotten in the eyes of the Lord.
Elevation to the Rank of Monsignor
On November 29, 1997, only six years after his priestly ordination, Fr. Regie was elevated to the ecclesiastical rank of Monsignor. Through this distinction, he became the youngest priest in Bataan to receive the title—a remarkable milestone in his priesthood and in the history of the local Church.
From then on, the affectionate name “Monsi Regie” became closely associated with his unmistakable voice, thought-provoking homilies, compassionate heart, and dedicated pastoral service.
Although the title brought recognition, the heart of his vocation remained unchanged: to proclaim the Gospel, celebrate the sacraments, and remain present to the people entrusted to his pastoral care.
Continuing Ministry in Orion
After serving numerous parish communities and social ministries, Monsi Regie now serves as Parish Priest of Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Calungusan, Orion, Bataan.
His current assignment brings him closer to the people of his hometown and allows him to continue guiding the faithful through the sacraments, the proclamation of the Word, and compassionate pastoral care.
More than three decades after his ordination, Monsi Regie continues to preach with the same strength, energy, and conviction for which he has long been known. His homilies invite the faithful not merely to listen but to reflect, grow, and live their faith more sincerely.
A Lasting Legacy of Faith and Compassion
The strength of Monsi Regie’s priesthood cannot be measured by the power of his voice alone. It is also found in the lives he has accompanied, the vulnerable people he has embraced, the forgotten individuals he has helped restore to dignity, and the communities whose faith he has helped strengthen.
