Priest of the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei and Chaplain of PAREF Rosevale
From his formative years in Orion to his studies in the Philippines, Spain, and Rome, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Tiambeng Esguerra followed a path shaped by faith, education, discipline, and service. Ordained in 2005 as a priest of Opus Dei, he continues to serve through the sacraments, spiritual formation, and the pastoral accompaniment of students, families, and communities.
Early Life and Orion Roots
Through SINTAS (Sinagtala ng Sambayanan), a parish youth community at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, many young people in Orion strengthened their faith and formed lasting friendships. Among the families connected with this community was that of Alberto San Pedro Esguerra and Felicitas Santos Tiambeng.
Among their children was Emmanuel “Emman” Tiambeng Esguerra, who would later discern a vocation to the priesthood.
Known to his family and friends as Emman, he was recognized for his quiet demeanor and disciplined approach to his studies. His father hoped that he would complete his education in Economics at the University of the Philippines and prepare for a stable professional career.
It was during his university years that Emman encountered members of Opus Dei. Through them, he became acquainted with a spirituality centered on seeking holiness in the ordinary circumstances of life—including study, professional work, family responsibilities, friendship, and the faithful fulfillment of one’s daily duties.
His father initially expressed concern that Emman’s growing involvement in church-related activities might affect his academic pursuits. Through consistent academic performance and commitment to his responsibilities, however, Emman demonstrated that faith and education could coexist harmoniously.
Studies and Priestly Formation
With the assistance of a scholarship, Emman traveled to Spain to study Philosophy and continue his formation. Studying abroad exposed him to new academic and cultural experiences while deepening his spiritual preparation.
In 2001, he completed his studies in Sacred Theology at the University of Navarra. This marked an important milestone in his formation and provided him with the theological foundation necessary for his future pastoral ministry.
His years of study and discernment eventually led him to the priesthood. On May 21, 2005, Emmanuel Tiambeng Esguerra was ordained at the Basilica of Saint Eugene in Rome, together with 41 other members of Opus Dei. The ordination brought together 42 candidates representing 13 nationalities.
Through ordination, Fr. Emmanuel was entrusted with the celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments, the proclamation of the Word of God, spiritual direction, preaching, and the pastoral accompaniment of the faithful.
Doctoral Studies and Pastoral Ministry
Fr. Emmanuel continued his academic formation after his ordination. In 2006, he earned a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, further strengthening his qualifications for pastoral and formation work.
His theological education prepared him to communicate the teachings of the Church clearly and to guide people seeking to integrate their faith with the responsibilities of everyday life.
Throughout his ministry within the Personal Prelature of Opus Dei, Fr. Emmanuel has served through the celebration of the sacraments, spiritual direction, preaching, recollections, and personal accompaniment. His ministry has included helping students, professionals, parents, and families deepen their spiritual lives while faithfully fulfilling their responsibilities.
Current Ministry and Continuing Connection to Orion
