POPE’S WORLDWIDE PRAYER NETWORK (PWPN), formerly known as THE APOSTLESHIP OF PRAYER, known in SMAP as APOSTOLADO NG PANALANGIN (AP)

Overview

The PWPN-AP is a mission at the heart of the Church. Our purpose is simple: to pray for and address the challenges facing humanity and the mission of the Church, guided by the Pope’s monthly intentions. Through prayer, service, and spiritual formation, we connect hearts across continents, growing in compassion and solidarity. But this is more than just prayer ---- it is a mission to live the Gospel daily, transforming our lives and the world through a journey we call “The Way of the Heart.” PWPN is present in more than 90 countries, united by a common mission of prayer and compassion. Wherever you are, you are not alone. This global community walks with you!

History

In 1872, the AP was introduced in the Philippines by the Jesuit Missionaries in three schools namely, Ateneo De Manila, Colegio Dela Concordia, and Colegio De Sta. Isabel. Two AP parish centers were also started in the parishes of Angono and Malate. Dr. Jose Rizal, who was still a student of the Ateneo at that time, was one of the first members and a promoter of the AP. He even carved an image of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus using Baticulin wood. On September 5, 1902, the parish priest of Orion, Bataan, Rev. Msgr. Jose Dimbla, introduced the AP. The late Prudencia Lonzon, lovingly remembered as “Tiya/Impong Insay,” the Pioneer President of the AP in SMAP-Orion, led the morning prayers to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Holy Rosary before each Holy Mass. AP has been one of the most accessible lay religious organizations in Bataan, organizing Block Rosaries and Parish Novenas. In 1996, AP in SMAP-Orion had the most number of members not only in Bataan but in the entire Philippines thus, was awarded by the AP National Center as the Local AP center with more than 350 members devoted to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Vision

A community of praying disciples who follow the way of the MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS, who offer their daily lives for the Church through the Holy Father’s monthly intentions and who make themselves available for any mission.

Mission

To KNOW, LOVE, ADORE, SERVE and PROCLAIM JESUS in HIS MOST SACRED HEART and in THE HOLY EUCHARIST.

Activities

The foundational charism of the AP is the promotion of the Daily Offering / Monthly Intentions of the Pope and intense devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus through the First Friday Holy Mass and Communion and Holy Hour Devotions. The image of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus remains a centerpiece in church and home altars serving as a spiritual anchor for personal holiness.

4. First Friday and Holy Hour devotions
5. Corporal & Spiritual Works of Mercy – acts of charity, visiting the sick, praying for the living and the dead as Prayer Warriors of SMAP
