Ministry to the Sick

Overview

The Ministry to the Sick is a vital part of the parish's pastoral care system. Its primary focus is to bring the presence, comfort, and healing love of Jesus Christ to those who are unable to attend Holy Mass at the parish church due to illness, disability, or old age. Through home visits, hospital visitation, and community outreach, the ministers offer prayers, compassionate companionship, and the distribution of Holy Communion (Communion for the Sick).

History

The Ministry to the Sick was established in 2000 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Orion, Bataan, under the name Pastoral Care for the Sick (Paglingap sa mga May-Sakit). It was later renamed the Ministry to the Sick. It provides spiritual, emotional, and pastoral care to the sick, elderly, and housebound or bedridden parishioners across the various barangays of Orion.

Mission

To serve with compassion and love, bringing the healing and redeeming presence of Christ to the sick, bedridden, and elderly through prayer, Christian fellowship, and the Holy Eucharist, while supporting their families and caregivers.

Vision

A parish community in Orion where no sick or elderly parishioner feels isolated or forgotten; a living Church that continually reaches out to manifest God's mercy, hope, and love to the most vulnerable.

Key Activities

1. Visiting the homes of bedridden and elderly parishioners across Orion's barangays to offer prayers and distribute Holy Communion.
2. Coordinating with and assisting the Parish Priest during home or hospital visits to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
3. Holding regular coordination meetings and planning visitation routes.
4. Providing spiritual enrichment for ministers and volunteers.
